These are the new flats built to house the first of the residents to be moved out of the nearby Heygate Estate. The Wansey Street flat could not have been designed more differently to their counterpart. The playful colourful vertical lines contrast with the brutal, domineering monotonous horizontal grey lines of the Heygate building over the road.

Indeed the architects, de Rijke Marsh Morgan, have won Best Public Housing in the Building Design Architect of the year 2006 awards, both for attractive exterior and its green credentials. Hopefully this is the shape of things to come for public housing in London.
